Manufacturer: Sun Pharma
Pharmaceutical name: Topiramate
Pack: 10 pills (50 mg)
Topirol (Topiramate) is prescribed either alone or alongside other medications to prevent and manage seizures (epilepsy). Additionally, this drug is utilized to avert migraine headaches and lessen their frequency. However, Topirol will not help with the treatment of an ongoing migraine headache. If you experience a migraine, follow your doctor's advice for treatment (such as using pain relief medication or resting in a dark room). Topirol is classified as an anticonvulsant or antiepileptic medication.
You should take Topirol orally, with or without food, as your doctor directs, typically twice a day. Swallow the tablets whole, as breaking them may result in a bitter flavor. To help prevent the formation of kidney stones, make sure to drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication, unless your doctor advises otherwise. The dosage depends on your medical condition and how you respond to treatment. For children, the dosage is also determined by weight. Your doctor will gradually adjust your dosage to minimize the risk of side effects. In some cases, you may begin treatment with Topiramate once daily at bedtime and gradually increase it to twice daily. It may take several weeks or months to find the optimal dose for you and to fully benefit from this medication.
To maximize the benefits of Topirol, take it consistently. To assist with remembering, try to take it at the same time every day. Do not discontinue Topirol without consulting your doctor, as some conditions may worsen if the medication is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually reduced. Inform your doctor if your condition continues or deteriorates.
Potential side effects may include tiredness, drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, tingling sensations in the hands/feet, decreased appetite, a bad taste in the mouth, diarrhea, and weight loss. There may also be mental side effects, such as confusion, slowed thinking, difficulty concentrating or paying attention, nervousness, memory issues, or problems with speech/language. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor or pharmacist without delay.
